Cheap Milk? Freeze It!

I remember walking across the street in my little hometown many moons ago and getting a gallon of milk for $1.59 (or something close to that)! Milk has now doubled since then and now that I have three boys and a cookie and milk-a-holic husband...well, we spend a LOT of money on milk!

Dillon's has their 1/2 gallons this week for just $1.00! This is stockpile price for me! Concerned that you won't get through all those milks by their expiration date? Freeze Them! Yep you heard me right!!!

I have been freezing milk for awhile now. Whenever I find an amazing deal on milk I grab a few to throw in the freezer. So how do you do it and does it taste good (I know that's the big question)!

First, you want to write the date that you put the milk in the freezer with a permanent marker. When you thaw it out, write that date down as well. You have the same number of days until it expires that you would have had without freezing it. So, if you put it in the freezer on May 1st and it expires May 11th, when you take it out on August 5th, you have until August 15th until it expires.

Some people let out a little milk to allow room to expand but I never have and (knock on wood) I have never had a mess or one explode! I have mostly frozen 2% and Vitamin D milk but I have heard some people say all milk freezes well and I have heard others say NEVER freeze Skim!

Now, thawing it out will take a few days in the freezer! So, when to take the milk out of the freezer is something to consider depending how fast you go through it! I can't taste a difference and the only thing that may be different is there could be a few ice crystals for awhile until it is truly thawed but it is worth it at how much money we are saving!

Valentine's Day is less than a week away, so now is the time to start thinking about what to do for that special someone(s)!

Lunch or Dinner Family Date-

Last year my family celebrated with a "Heart Themed Lunch"! Homemade pizzas w/ heart shaped pepperoni, heart brownies, red Kool-Aid, real plates, glasses and napkins!

Hershey's Kiss Valentine's Day Treasure Hunt-

When your kids wake up have them start a Valentine's Day Treasure Hunt from their bed. I heard an idea where you can have a path of Hershey's Kisses in different colors for each kid going to a special treat at the end or to their first clue. The prize doesn't have to be expensive...maybe a card, a stuffed animal, a heart shaped pancake breakfast, etc.

Make Cards- I love it when I get homemade cards. That means my husband actually had to "think" about it rather than just stop at the store. Not only does it mean more but it is so much cheaper! I can't believe cards are $3.00-$4.00 anymore!

Decorate With Hearts- Simply cut hearts out of paper, or reuse the leftovers from that page where only one coupon printed out! Then color them if you are extremely frugal and don't have colored paper and take them around the house, on the fridge, on the toilet, on the bathroom mirror! Go a step farther and leave little notes on them too! The kids will LOVE this!

Ideas For The Woman In Your Life- MEN PAY ATTENTION

*Give her a day to herself, even just an hour, heck even just breakfast!!!! I personally would just like to shave my legs in peace!!!

*Give her a massage!

*Write her a love note!

*How about crossing off some honey do's without being told! *hint*hint* Drew!!!!

*Let them do their hobby WITHOUT griping! To go the distance, let them go ALL day!

"Fancy and Four"- Cute and Frugal Girls Party Idea!

My friend Amy just threw her adorable daughter a "Fancy and Four" party this last weekend. I had never heard of this theme before, but after getting the photos I knew I had to share it with everyone. Amy was telling me it was the cheapest party she has ever thrown because so many of the items they used were from around the house!


The Invitations-Homemade



The Birthday Girl and a guest dressed "Fancy"!



The Food Table-Pitchers with Kool-Aid, various platters of fruit and snacks, and homemade glitter sprinkled cupcakes!

The Decorations- White Christmas Lights, Christmas Tinsel and Ribbon on the tables-think Christmas Clearance!!!! Also, the guests dressed "All Fancy!" I love it!!!

If you could have seen all the pictures you would have seen the twinkle and excitement in this little girl's eyes! What a fun theme that will bring memories for years to come!!!
